Welcome to the Substance Use Prevention Evidence-Based Resource!

The Substance Use Prevention Evidence-Based Resource (SUPER) is a centralized resource designed to give California counties, youth service providers, and tribal entities streamlined and straightforward information about evidence-based, promising, and innovative substance use prevention practices.

SUPER includes the following:

  • A “How to Use SUPER” page that provides an overview of key concepts in youth substance use prevention, guidance on selecting practices, and information about how to use SUPER. It is highly recommended that you review this page prior to using SUPER.
  • A searchable list of evidence-based and promising practices in substance use prevention, with links to pages for each practice that include information on implementation considerations and scientific evidence of effectiveness.

SUPER is part of the Department of Health Care Services’ (DHCS) Big 5 by 2025 Initiative, which is developing state-level infrastructure for behavioral health prevention across California. The University of California, Los Angeles’ Integrated Substance Use and Addiction Programs has developed SUPER under contract with DHCS.
